Sarreguemines Pottery was established around 1790 by Nicholas-Henri Jacobi and 2 partners. In 1800 Paul Utzschneider took over the factory and Napoleon I became a major customer and placed several orders with him. The factory supplied most of the original tiles used to decorate the walls of the Paris metro during its construction.
Majolica was added to production in the 1860's. The most popular majolica pattern was a series of different fruits on a molded bed of yellow leaves.
Admirers of the lively and colourful pieces can be found all over the world. Paul Utzschneider and Paul de Geiger, real artists, brought the brand to the top of the earthenware industry. From the 19th century Sarreguemines has provided the world with a vast collection of earthenware, vases, decorative flower pots, wall frescos and chimneys.
Sarreguemines ceased production in 2007.
