Georgian Pinchbeck Swiss Canton bracelet with porcelain enamel plaques
A stunning and rare antique Pinchbeck and porcelain plaque bracelet featuring enamelled regional characters in brightly coloured regional dress.
Chain bracelet with repoussé decor, Georgian era, six rectangle porcelain plaquettes joined by gilded links and secured with a box clasp. Antique Pinchbeck metal and Swiss enamel hand painted plaques with superb detail. Circa 1830.
The features of the 'Canton' are painted and enamelled in exquisitely fine detail on a porcelain panel. These were produced sometime during the early 1800's. This well-preserved Georgian piece is highly collectible and in beautiful condition.
Pinchbeck was invented by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clockmaker in the early 18th century. The material was created to resemble gold which was not affordable at the time for the majority. Pinchbeck is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. This rare metal remains important in jewellery history for it has not been reproduced and is durable, non-tarnishing and a collectible piece of history.
The bracelet is bold with wide links and a piece of history to be cherished. Not in original box, will be sent with insurance included in postage.
