Colin Noel Chandler 'Murrawin' rare original Aboriginal oil on velvet artwork

Stunning, rare and collectible framed wall art by the Australian artist Colin Noel Chandler (under the pseudonym of ‘Murrawin’), born in Echuca, Victoria, 1931. Circa 1960's.

The artist spent much of his childhood in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne. Bill Onus, an Aboriginal gallery owner, encouraged him to start painting which mainly consisted of Aboriginal portraiture in oil on velvet. Bill Onus sold most of his work in the early years. Colin Noel Chandler's art won many prizes during the 1970's and 1980's.

This artwork is a gorgeous portrait of an Aboriginal child in very good condition in it's timber original frame. The velvet has some dust collected on it as it is framed without glass, but this could be carefully cleaned up and glass could be added to keep the artwork dust free. It is in otherwise fantastic condition, a rare and original mid century piece.
